120 years after its creation, a pillar of modern perfumery is reborn, proof that true icons never fade. A modern revival of the amber that now captivates Gen Z.
Created in 1905, Coty’s Ambre Antique gave birth to one of perfumery’s most prolific olfactory families: the Ambers. Without it, many other fragrance masterpieces of the 20th and 21st centuries might never have existed.
Some might ask whether vintage notes like amber, iris, and aldehydes feel outdated. We say: not at all, nostalgia is booming. Perfumers are giving these ingredients a new contemporary pulse. Simultaneously, younger fragrance lovers, inspired by Instagram and TikTok, are rediscovering the marvels of earlier decades.
To recreate the original Ambre Antique, Coty embarked on a journey of olfactive archaeology. This endeavour was led by Coty’s director of technical perfumery, who sourced the same rose and jasmine extracts used in 1905 and rebalanced the fragrance’s defining bases, including the legendary and long-lost Ambréine S.
Faithfully recreated, the formula comes to life once again in a rare 1,905 editioned bottles – a nod to the year of its birth.
