Amouage – Outlands, Essence de Parfum
Cecile Zarokian presents Outlands as an invitation to journey into the beyond. The opening of the composition is unexpectedly light-hearted: an invigorating array of bright citruses, emphasised by candied Lemon. However, as the voyage continues, the landscape becomes more extraordinary. [PARA] A rich, multi-faceted Patchouli – projecting heat, humidity and verdancy in equal measure – compels the intrepid traveller to move deeper into the cryptic landscape. Finally, an amber accord – reverberating with the potency of balsams and resins – entices a progression to the ultimate encounter, where we find ourselves reflected and remade. [PARA] As indescribable as it is familiar, Outlands makes use of extraordinary contrasts between light and shade to capture the ever-shifting inevitability of the future. The Essences lies in an extraordinary double-infusion process which marks a genuinely exciting development in the art of perfumery. The concentrate for each of the Essences is infused with sandalwood chips obtained from trees growing in ancient groves in Australia’s Western Desert. The bioethanol in which the concentrate is eventually diluted – after an astonishing six-month ageing period – is infused in hand-made, artisanal oakwood barrels.
